🚚NHTSA Notice on Compliance Labeling for Retroreflective Materials

The Department of Transportation (DOT) invites public comments about our intention to request the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approval on the reinstatement of a previously approved collection on Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108. Before a Federal agency can collect certain information from the public, it must receive approval from the OMB. Under procedures established by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, before seeking OMB approval, Federal agencies must solicit public comment on proposed collections of information, including extensions and renewals of previously approved collections. This document describes a collection of labeling information on FMVSS No. 108, for which NHTSA intends to seek OMB approval. The labeling requirement is for retroreflective sheeting material.

✈️FAA Issues Airworthiness Directive for Airbus A350 Compliance

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2022-27- 01, which applied to certain Airbus SAS Model A350-941 and -1041 airplanes. AD 2022-27-01 required replacing affected fasteners and applying additional head nut cap protection at the front and rear spars in the center wing box (CWB). Since the FAA issued AD 2022-27-01, the FAA determined that additional Airbus SAS Model A350 manufacturer serial numbers (MSNs) are affected by the same potential unsafe condition. This AD continues to require the actions in AD 2022-27-01 and expands the applicability to include the additional Airbus SAS Model A350 MSNs. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

🚌Exemption Notice for Motorcoach Seat Belt Requirements

In accordance with our regulations, NHTSA is granting 13 petitions for renewal of temporary exemptions from the requirement to install Type 2 seat belts (i.e., shoulder belts) at side-facing seats on motorcoaches. The 13 petitioners are final-stage manufacturers of entertainer-type motorcoaches, seeking temporary exemptions from the shoulder belt requirement of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208, "Occupant crash protection," for side-facing seats. The granted exemptions permit the petitioners to continue to install Type 1 seat belts (lap belt only) at side-facing seating positions, instead of Type 2 seat belts (lap and shoulder belts) required by FMVSS No. 208. After reviewing the petitions and the comments received, the agency has determined that the requested exemption renewals are warranted to enable each petitioner to sell vehicles whose overall level of safety or impact protection is at least equal to that of a nonexempted vehicle.
