Learn More⚓️Request for Comments on Maritime Service Obligation Renewal
The Maritime Administration (MARAD) invites public comments on our intention to request the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approval to renew an information collection in accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995. The proposed collection OMB 2133-0510 (Request for Waiver of Service Obligation, Request for Deferment of Service Obligation, and Application for Review) is used to determine if waivers and deferments may be granted to graduates of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) and State Maritime Academies (SMAs) who participated in the Student Incentive Payment (SIP) Program. There was a reduction in the total burden hours for this collection, due to less time taken to complete the forms associated with this collection. There are no other changes to this collection. Learn More🌱Proposed Endangered Status for Ghost Orchid
We, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), propose to list the ghost orchid (Dendrophylax lindenii), a flowering plant species found in the United States in southwestern Florida and in Cuba as an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (Act). This determination also serves as our 12-month finding on a petition to list the ghost orchid. After a review of the best scientific and commercial data available, we find that listing the species is warranted. Accordingly, we propose to list the ghost orchid as an endangered species under the Act. If we finalize this rule as proposed, it would add this species to the List of Endangered and Threatened Plants and extend the Act's protections to the species. We find that designating critical habitat for this species is not prudent.
