🚧Notice of Intent for Sonoran Corridor Environmental Impact Statement

The FHWA, on behalf of the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is issuing this Notice of Intent (NOI) to solicit comment and advise the public, agencies, Tribes, and stakeholders that an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) will be prepared for the Sonoran Corridor (State Route 410), a new highway between Interstate 19 (I-19) and Interstate 10 (I-10) in Pima County, Arizona. FHWA, in coordination with ADOT, completed Tier 1 Final EIS and Record of Decision in October 2021 and addressed the need for additional transportation capacity and connectivity in Pima County. This Tier 2 EIS will build upon the Tier 1 EIS process.

💧Arizona UIC Program Primacy Proposed Rule

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA or Agency) has received a complete Underground Injection Control (UIC) primacy application from the State of Arizona requesting primary enforcement responsibility (primacy) for Class I-VI injection wells under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) section 1422. The EPA's approval of the State's UIC program primacy application would allow the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) to authorize underground injection for all underground injection wells regulated under the Federal SDWA and ensure compliance with UIC program requirements. The EPA proposes to issue a final rule approving Arizona's application to implement the UIC program for Class I-VI injection wells located within the State, except those on Indian lands. The EPA proposes amendments to reflect this proposed approval of Arizona's UIC program primacy application.

This Tier 2 EIS will build upon the Tier 1 EIS process. A Tier 2 EIS has also been initiated for Segment 2 and a NOI is expected within the next 12-months.
