🔫DOJ Proposes Regulations on Firearms Rights Restoration
The Department of Justice ("the Department") proposes to implement criteria to guide determinations for granting relief from disabilities imposed by Federal laws with respect to the acquisition, receipt, transfer, shipment, transportation, or possession of firearms. In accordance with certain firearms laws and the Second Amendment of the Constitution, the criteria are designed to ensure the fundamental right of the people to keep and bear arms is not unduly infringed, that those granted relief are not likely to act in a manner dangerous to public safety, and that granting such relief would not be contrary to the public interest.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) adopts this regulation to govern the protection of Federal property. DHS developed this regulation in consultation with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). Consistent with DHS' statutory authority, these regulations provide charging options for violations occurring on and adjacent to Federal property, update prohibited conduct to incorporate advancing technology, provide clearer public notice, and apply the regulations more uniformly to property owned, operated or secured by the Federal Government. This final rule makes no substantive changes from the proposed rule that was published in the Federal Register on January 15, 2025.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is issuing technical amendments to certain aviation security regulations. The technical amendments to the regulations clarify that airport operators and aircraft operators are required to retain only the criminal records, including the application for a criminal history records check (CHRC), associated with an individual's current CHRC, CHRC certification, or authorization to perform a covered function and not records associated with previous CHRCs or employment investigations. Also, the technical amendments clarify that the records may be stored in paper or electronic form.
