🚗NHTSA Proposes Phase-In Reporting Requirements for Vehicle Manufacturers
Agency Information Collection Activities; Notice and Request for Comment; 49 CFR Part 585; Phase-In Reporting Requirements
Summary
NHTSA invites public comments about our intention to request approval from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for a reinstatement with modification of a previously-approved information collection. Before a Federal agency can collect certain information from the public, it must receive approval from OMB. Under procedures established by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, before seeking OMB approval, Federal agencies must solicit public comment on proposed collections of information, including extensions and reinstatement of previously approved collections. This document describes a collection of information for which NHTSA intends to seek OMB approval on phase-in reporting requirements as part of a final rule in which NHTSA amended Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208, "Occupant crash protection."

The NHTSA's request for comments regarding the reinstatement of information collection on phase-in reporting requirements directly impacts vehicle manufacturers. Compliance with these reporting and recordkeeping requirements for Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) updates is necessary, along with the associated labor cost for manufacturers to adhere to new regulations.
